Well, not much has changed in the forecast. It appears that an historic ice storm could hit portions of West Kentucky. Some areas could see 1-2" of freezing rain. Hard to believe some of the numbers being spit out by the models.
Right now it appears that Paducah will see around 1/2" of freezing rain, 1-3" of sleet, and 2-4" of snow.
This storm certainly has the potential to produce a significant amount of damage across some of our counties.

NAM is showing more than 2" of ice over West Kentucky. That is freezing rain.

Latest guidance is showing the potential for a significant winter storm developing across our region (KY/TN/IL) on Monday night and continuing through Wednesday. At this time I am leaning towards an ice threat for West KY. Amounts could be greater than 0.25". Temperatures should remain cold enough to keep most of the precipitation in the form of freezing rain and sleet.
This storm is still five+ days away. As we all know a lot can change in five days. If the rain/snow line is three or four counties away on the models tonight (which it is) then that makes it very difficult to make a call this far out.
The potential for a major winter storm is increasing, however.

Well, we have our first snowflakes of the season. A light dusting of snow outside of my window. Radar shows scattered snow showers over the region. Might pick up 1/2" or less across some of our counties.

Well, it has turned cold on us. As I write this it is 18 degrees outside. We should see a lot temperature of somewhere around 11 degrees. Tomorrow night we will dip into the single digits. The NWS in Paducah is predicting a low of 4 degrees for Friday morning. The coldest air of the season, thus far.
Still no snow to report for my counties. The snowless winter continues. Record snowfall is being reported north of West KY and South IL. Just wish it would move south.

An area of low pressure will approach the region (West KY/South IL) on Friday night into Saturday morning. Scattered rain showers will form in response to the energy moving through our counties. No snow, however. We could see a clap of thunder across portions of the area.
Next week looks cold. An arctic cold wave is forecast to spread southward across the eastern United States on Monday and Tuesday. This cold air will be reinforced on Wednesday and Thursday. Our area could see temperatures down into the lower teens or perhaps lower. Uncertain as to whether or not we can pull some snow out of one of the clippers coming in from the northwest.
One thing of interest is that the models have pushed back the cold air a few days. This is always a red flag as to just how cold it will actually end up. GFS already has a cold bias - so we may not get as cold as originally thought a few days ago. If we could get some snow cover over portions of Missouri and Illinois then that would help.

GFS forecast for the cold later next week (course it has a cold bias so this may be overdone)

Surface temperatures have remained cold enough across the region for a mixture of sleet and freezing rain to develop. It looks like temperatures will rise above freezing late tonight or tomorrow morning across most of West KY. Road temperatures are in the lower 40s - so this should not be an extreme event. Bridges and overpasses will become slick and hazardous, though.
The NWS in Paducah has issued a winter weather advisory for the entire region.

Well, it would be nice to talk about a major winter storm heading our way. Unfortunately, for snow fans, there isn’t one to talk about. It appears that some rain will move through the region on Monday afternoon and night. There could be a mixture of freezing rain and sleet across portions of the KPAH region. At this time it appears it will be more on the rain side for West KY. Will have to monitor, though.
No other major storms are expected to impact the region this week.
